Palin Quits While Giving a Horrible Press Conference

The shocker of the day, Sarah Palin quits. While I have never been a fan of hers since she hit the spotlight (mainly because she was nowhere near ready), I have never called her names or acted like a complete idiot like some of my other fellow democrats have. I had nothing personally against her, I just thought she came out of her element too soon.

This press conference in my opinion seems to come at a horrible time for her image. She was still under criticism from the left and still not in total solid ground with the republican party, this whole press conference and her reasoning seemed very sloppy.

Even the conservative blogs were critical of her speech. From Ed Morrissey at HotAir.com:

I’ve had a chance to watch the video of her announcement and read through dozens of Twitter messages back and forth attempting to rationalize this, and still, it simply can’t be rationalized on the basis of what Palin said today. It’s easily the most bizarre resignation I’ve seen, and just about senseless.

The lame-duck explanation was the most incoherent part of the entire statement.

I’ve seen a myriad of excuses on Twitter and e-mail for this bizarre resignation: her legal bills are too high, she’s putting her family first, she doesn’t want to distract Alaskans because of cheap-shot ethics complaints that are distracting everyone. None of those make any sense. If the spotlight was too much, then she shouldn’t have run for office in the first place.

If she’s quitting because people are taking potshots at her, then she’s not the kind of political fighter we thought she was. The legal bills might be a rational reason, but thoroughly insufficient for betraying the people who put her in charge of Alaska — and her memoirs would have paid for her legal bills many times over, had she completed her term.

If she plans to run for president in 2012, this move was not the best way to line up at the starting line for the biggest political race of her life......

Teacher Gives Homemade Sex Tape to Fifth Graders

(No this is not the teacher)

I had a crush on several of my grammar school teachers in my day I admit. I guess I hit puberty early. I would stare at the teachers with the tight skirts and revealing tops all day. However I'm not sure how I would have reacted or have even known what I was looking at if my teacher sent me home with a sex tape:

A local teacher accidentally put pornography into a DVD that was meant to be filled with school memories from the past year, and nobody caught the error until after it was sent home, shocking parents and students alike.

Parents of students who attend Isabelle Jackson Elementary said that the woman is a good teacher, but just made a mistake that may become the most embarrassing moment of their life.

The offending DVD starts with a menu screen that displays various school trips and functions, and when you click on one of them, you see kids in a classroom sharing stories. They start clapping, then the video suddenly cuts to sex.

I probably would have stared for as long as possible before my mother would have jumped in front of the television to block my view. My mother also would have raised high hell the next day, while my father would have played the "I'm outraged role" while requesting to privately view what made my mom was so upset.

“It goes from my son, straight to her on the couch,” said ‘Joe,’ who saw the video along with his son and did not wish to be identified. “My son’s reaction was, ‘Dad, is that Ms. Defanti?’”

“We were up till midnight doing the ‘birds and the bees,’” he added.

The person in the video turned out to be Isabelle Jackson Elementary fifth grade teacher Crystal Defanti.

“All she could say was that it was a horrible mix up,” Joe said.

The teacher called his home the day after his child got the DVD, crying hysterically, profusely apologizing and asking the man and his wife to call every parent they knew to stop their kids from seeing the DVD too.

The Elk Grove Unified School District says they are investigating, but legal experts say it's unlikely that the teacher will lose her job.

"It's felony stupid, but it's not a crime," said defense expert Ken Rosenfeld. "Is it something that she should be disciplined for? Absolutely, but fired for? She didn't intend for this to happen."

Joe doesn't care if the teacher keeps her job, he'd just like some help from the school.

"Maybe offer some sort of counseling for my children, ask me how my children are doing," he said. "I want somebody to ask me the kind of questions my kids are asking me."

School officials say a new DVD will be sent to students once it has been reviewed.

I'm not sure this is something that I would want her to be fired over. I would however have her transferred to another school and definitely have a counselor talk to the kids. Sadly the little video these kids were able to view is nothing compared to what they have access to on the internet or at their local library.

Why Won't Mark Sanford Shut Up?

This is something I have never seen before. I guy who gets caught cheating can't shut about the affair and tells all types of intimate details for all to hear.

Since first being busted for the affair, Sanford has now admitted to seeing her more times than previously reported. He has also recently called his mistress his "soul mate", but says he will work on trying to fall back in love with his wife. He even admits to other encounters where he has had inappropriate contact with numerous other women. He says he never engaged in sex with them however.

Will someone please tell this guy to shut up already! What is he trying to prove? That he is more of man by being honest about lying and cheating in the first place. Does he even think about what this is doing to his family? His four boys? His wife?

And does he really think quoting the bible about his situation is going to win him any sympathy?

Limbaugh: "Obama Won't Honor the 22nd Amendment"

So Limbaugh believes that Obama will now seek to become supreme ruler of the United States. Limbaugh on his radio program today says that he believes that Obama will seek to change the 22nd amendment which says a president can serve no more than two terms.

He claims Obama and his cult following will push for changing the 22nd amendment so that Obama can continue to serve beyond 2016.

"Anybody who thinks [Obama] intends to just constitutionally go away in 2016 is nuts"

So basically Limbaugh believes Obama will win a second term. Also anyone who voted for Obama are followers not supporters, "cult like" as he calls it.

It won't be long before he joins the Birther groups.

Even the guys over at HotAir.com thinks Limbaugh off his rocker on this one.

SCOTUS Does the Right Thing

There is no one that is more of a champion of minority rights than I am, but I was always perplexed about the case of the New Haven Firefighters.

Over the years there have been plenty of racial discrimination cases, mostly involving minority plaintiffs. This one however had twenty firefighters with 19 of them White. Of course this got a lot of media attention because it boiled down to the men claiming they were victims of reserve discrimination.

After only knowing what I could read in the papers, I must say I was always overwhelmingly on the side of the Firefighters. I could not for the life of me understand how in today's society a test could be racially biased. I as a African-American felt insulted that the city of New Haven felt that the Black Firefighters could not somehow understand a promotion exam that every man, Black and White had resources to study for.

What kind of questions were on this test that made it racially biased?

• What are favorite foods of White people?
• Name the lead singer of the Beach Boys.
• Name five NHL players that are not famous.

Yes these questions are silly, and even some Whites can't answer all of them, so how could a promotional exam for a firefighter be racially biased to where only Whites can pass? It can't in my opinion.

If this were 1950 I would easily be singing a different tune. Things were different, racism was right in face bold and alive. Blacks were restricted in their education, and were routinely discriminated against without lady justice even giving a damn.

Today however any determined man or woman, has the same resources and tools as their co-workers. There is no White study prep book and one for Blacks, Asians or Hispanics.

So I am ecstatic about the decision by the Supreme Court today to rule in favor of those firefighters. Justice has been served to those men and they can now enjoy the fruits of their labor. For those who did not pass the exam, I suggest you crack those books and study harder for next time.
